Crown of Glory Lutheran Church confirmation annual food drive brought in over 3600 pounds of food for the Bountiful Basket Food Shelf. The above picture are bags collected by one team. Six teams of students competed for prizes for the most pounds, the most of a designated item, and the most exotic item. Sorting was completed in 2 1/2 hours by 15 Bountiful Basket Volunteers. Thank you to the donors, the students, the parents, and the volunteers.
FARE FOR ALL
The Bountiful Basket Food Shelf and the city of Chaska successfully hosted a meeting that helped create a Fare for All program in Carver County in 2014. The site is at the Crown of Glory Church in Chaska with discount food available for purchase the fourth Thursday of the month from 4 to 6 p.m. Due to Thanksgiving it will be Nov. 15, 2018.
CARVER COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH
The Bountiful Basket Food Shelf of Eastern Carver County has recently become a partner with the Carver County Department of Public Health. This effort relates to working with other Carver County food shelves and incorporating more healthy eating habits for food shelf clients.
CITY OF CHASKA UTILITY DEPARTMENT DONATES APPLIANCES!
During the fall of 2014 the city of Chaska Electric Department donated 2 glass door refrigerators as well as a glass door freezer at a combined value of over $10,000 to the Bountiful Basket! The applinaces were made avilable through a low-income grant which focuses on energy effecient equipment.
NAPS PROGRAM STARTS IN CHASKA
One of the most recent food assistance program start ups in the Chaska area is the Nutrition Assitance Program for Seniors (NAPS). This program is intended to serve men and women over the age of 60 who meet established income guidelines. The box of food, including canned fruits, canned vegtables, canned meat, ceral/rice, beans and cheese is picked up monthly in the meeting room adajcent to The Lodge at the Chaska Community Center.
