Helping people with hunger relief

Get Help

9.5% of households in Minnesota are food insecure and will struggle to find enough food this week.  This equates to 1 in 10 households, many with children.

Many volunteer opportunities exist to help with the Bountiful Basket food shelf.

Bountiful Basket relies on the generosity of area community members, churches, civic organizations/groups and businesses for our continued success.

Make A Real Change In Someone’s Life

Bountiful Basket Food Shelf has been serving Chaska, Carver, Chanhassen, Victoria and the surrounding area for 15 years helping people and families with hunger relief.  New in July 2023, Bountiful Basket opened a second site in Cologne. This food shelf’s primary service area includes individuals and families living in the city of Cologne as well as those living in the Hancock, Benton, San Francisco, and Dahlgren Townships. Individuals from surrounding communities welcome as well. There are no income requirements to receive food assistance.

We strive to ensure every individual has access to healthy and nutritious food through our grocery store-like experience.  We believe a non-judgmental, compassionate experiences are key components as we serve our community.

We are excited to participate in the Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Summer Challenge grant again this year. This Summer Challenge grant allows food shelves across Minnesota to participate in a fundraising challenge for a proportionally matched grant of up to $4,000!

”This financial aid boosts hunger awareness and assists food shelves in generating extra funds during the summer’s slower donation periods, enabling them to sustain their support for the local communities.” states Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless. “Persistent economic difficulties brought on by rising inflation have led to a continued dependence on food shelves for many households to fulfill their nutritional requirements.”

The need is real. The current environment is challenging, with high inflation, limited affordable housing, and high food prices. Given these daily challenges, Bountiful Basket is seeing an unprecedented demand for food services and is working hard to ensure they meet our community’s needs with good, nutritious food. Thank you for your support that allows us to keep up with the need.

The distribution of funds from the Summer Challenge Grant is based on the total funds raised by each participating food shelf in July and the number of food shelves involved, with grants ranging from a minimum of $150 to a maximum of $4,000.

You can help make an impact in our community by helping us secure the maximum match.

Summer is the hungriest time for kids as free meal options are extremely limited, leaving thousands of children at risk for increased food insecurity in the county. The Free Summer Produce Market helps fill the nutrition gap and ensure that kids have access to fresh produce and other basic food necessities all summer long.  By providing a free weekly fresh produce distribution, that is targeted towards families with children, we will be providing nourishment to the most vulnerable members of our community is critical for their growth, development, and overall well-being.
