Food Assistance

Bountiful Basket Food Shelf has been serving Chaska, Carver, Chanhassen, Victoria and the surrounding area for 15 years helping people and families with hunger relief.  New in July 2023, Bountiful Basket opened a second site in Cologne. This food shelf’s primary service area includes individuals and families living in the city of Cologne as well as those living in the Hancock, Benton, San Francisco, and Dahlgren Townships. While these are our traditional service areas – all are welcome. There are no income requirements to receive food assistance.

We strive to ensure every individual has access to healthy and nutritious food through our grocery store-like experience.  We believe a non-judgmental, compassionate experiences are key components as we serve our community.

Ways to Support Bountiful Basket This Summer

Become a Sustaining Member, Unlock a Matching Gift

Monthly giving provides dependable, ongoing support that allows Bountiful Basket to plan ahead, adapt to growing needs, respond to unexpected challenges as they arise, and ensure that families can count on nutritious food, compassionate support, and access to essential resources year-round.

This summer, thanks to a generous donor, Bountiful Basket will receive an additional $100 donation—up to $5,000 total—for every new Sustaining Member who signs up during June, July, or August, regardless of the monthly amount. Current Sustaining Members who increase their monthly gift during this time will also unlock the additional $100 gift.

Plus, if you set your recurring donation to start in July, your first month’s recurring donation will qualify for the Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless matching grant. See below for more details!

What Your Monthly Gift Can Mean

When you become a Sustaining Member, your monthly gift provides dependable support that helps ensure families have access to food and essential resources all year long. Below are examples of how a recurring monthly gift can make a difference in our community.

  • $10/month can help provide nutritious food for one senior for each month.

  • $25/month can support two mobile food deliveries each month for a household that cannot visit the food shelf.
  • $50/month can help provide food for a family of four for one month.
  • $100/month can provide food for 10 teens living at West Creek Apartments for one month.
  • $500/month can help provide eggs for approximately 200 families each month.
  • $1,000/month can help provide ground beef for 200 families each month.

These examples demonstrate how consistent monthly giving translates into consistent support for our neighbors. Whether your gift is $10 or $1,000 each month, your ongoing generosity creates a foundation of hope and stability for thousands of neighbors each year.

Community Resource Navigation

In September 2024, we announced our new mission, “Nourishing neighbors, inspiring hope, and supporting families on their road to self-sufficiency.” While food and good nutrition remains at the heart of what we do, we also recognize that hunger is often tied to other challenges.

One important initiative of our strategic plan is the addition of a Community Resource Navigator—a more holistic way to serve those in need. We recognize that food insecurity often goes hand-in-hand with broader challenges like housing instability, healthcare access, and employment barriers. To address these needs, our Community Resource Navigator works directly with clients, identifying gaps in services and connecting them to essential community resources such as housing support, employment services, healthcare, childcare, and financial literacy programs.
